Mixed Media Monday - Dance

Another quick post - this week's Mixed Media Monday theme is "dance" so here is my collage, made quite some time ago! It is a combination of vintage sheet music, a floral decorator napkin (serviette), stamped Oxford Impressions image of dancers , sepia ink, some dried flowers, brads and a large "gold" clef.

My plan is to get back to posting more regularly next week - no travel happening and hopefully lots of arty stuff to share! Wish me luck...

Mixed Media Monday - Words

This week's theme at Mixed Media Monday is "words". I included some words on this journal page I finished tonight for Vicci's square shaped book that I am working on as part of a round robin, so I am using this page as my entry for this theme.

The page is fabric (a recycled man's shirt) that I have sun-printed using champagne caps (or whatever it is that you call those little metal caps on top of champagne corks) and pink and orange glass paints. I have stamped in hot pink Fabrico ink using a flourish stamp and the end of a small cardboard roll. I've stitched a small piece of silk fusion fabric beneath the image which has been printed on an inkjet fabric sheet. To make the page more dimensional I have added fusible wadding underneath. And the beaded ribbon is much prettier than it looks in this scan.

A fun page to make!! I really do LOVE hot pink and orange together - I wonder what that says about me??!!

Mixed Media Monday - Wings

I can't believe this week went so fast - I didn't get anywhere near enough creative or blog time!!

This week's theme at Mixed Media Monday is "wings" so I thought this little canvas would be appropriate, especially given that it is so close to Christmas.

The little angel is a paper napkin (well crumpled), the music sheet background is coloured with Adirondack Color Wash in Butterscotch and there is black fibrous "paper" added as well to create some texture on the left side. The word stamps are all by Oxford Impressions and are stamped on torn tissue. The gold sprinkled in the sealing coat (diluted PVA) is Schmincke Tro-col.

Mixed Media Monday & Wednesday Stamper

This is my entry for two challenges this week - the Mixed Media Monday theme is "Gold" and the Wednesday Stamper theme is "Words" so I have combined the two in this piece.

It is a small canvas board which has been painted black and then covered in black lace strips. I've added a walnut ink stained shipping tag that has been stamped (mostly Oxford Impressions and one from Lost Aussie Designs) and stitched. The whole thing has then been coated in beeswax which holds the dried fern leaf and tiny dried flower in place. It has then been sprayed lightly with Moon Shadow Mist in Medieval Gold and dry brushed with Lumiere Sunset Gold, emphasizing the canvas edges. There is a small metal spiral pushed into the wax over the tag hole. Because the canvas is my "ode" to Paris I have used the word "dream" to finish it off (I can but dream of Paris!).

Mixed Media Monday - Buttons

In between art commitments today I have managed to do a little canvas for the Mixed Media Monday theme of "Buttons" (which I have just discovered has closed today already!). The canvas was painted with a beautiful green-gold (Goldens) and then dry-brushed with gesso. I have used a bigger version of the little girl image I used on my "house ATC" a couple of days ago. She is surrounded her with torn edge lace paper and a whole pile of white buttons (and a single green paper flower for a bit of colour!)

I have had a lovely day - it was extremely hot again (41 degrees) but apart from trips to the clothes line and some late afternoon re-potting of a couple of palms, I have pretty well stayed inside in the cool all day, mostly in my craft and sewing rooms. Such bliss - I got to work on lots of different projects, most of which are not finished yet.

Mixed Media Monday - Numbers (& Some ATCs)

I didn't end up doing a piece for last week's Mixed Media Monday challenge (crowns) so for this week's theme of "Numbers" I thought I would post a couple of pieces I made some time ago. They were both published in Somerset Studio for the Lingerie theme. I might still get a piece specially made before the theme changes next Monday but I am playing safe this week just in case.

The first piece is a large canvas board, painted and stamped with Oxford Impressions text images. The female shape is cut from paper. The whole board is covered with a spotty netting and the lingerie is of course lace. The large numbers are from those DIY clock sets.

This is a much smaller piece, again on a canvas board that has been painted with a pink glaze and partially stamped with a favourite checkerboard image. The tape measure is a cheap plastic one - I liked the red numbers.

And these two ATCs are the ones I have made as trades for Nadia. The Buddha one is decorator napkin glued to walnut ink-sprayed cream felt. The flowery one is purple felt that has been layered with synthetic organza fabrics, randomly stitched, burnt back, painted with Twinkling H20s and Starburst Stains and put through the embellisher a little. It is nice and textural.

Mixed Media Monday - Birds

This week's theme for Mixed Media Monday is "Birds" so I am using a piece I made for Somerset Studio's Holiday issue (can you believe we are in November already???)

It is a canvas board with stamping (text images), decorator napkin, a small tag and large brad and pieces of sheet music. I have used black gesso and Adirondack Color Washes in Butterscotch and Terracotta to add colour.

A New Challenge Blog - Mixed Media Monday!

Diane over in Canberra has just set up a new Challenge blog and this one is Mixed Media so of course, I have to participate!

The first theme is Vintage Women and as I just recently finished these jigsaw pieces with vintage women images I am going to use them for the challenge.

I have used a tiny piece of lacy tissue paper (what is that stuff called?) on the dress of one lady and I have used decorator napkins with a floral theme for part of the background of the other one. And I just love vintage women images!
